Priscilla Collings fired off an error-free effort with a .625 attack percentage and fellow senior
Samantha Middleborn had 13 kills as No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino shut down host Cal State Monterey Bay 3-0 in CCAA volleyball Saturday night.
The Coyotes completed the first half of CCAA play unbeaten at 11-0 and improved their overall record to 16-0.
The 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 victory was all CSUSB as it took control early in the opening set with just one lead change and finished the match after trailing 8-1 in the third set.
Senior
Morgan Carty continued to play well defensively with 15 digs and fellow senior libero
Kelcie Tolan was right behind with 12 digs. All-American junior setter
Camille Smith distributed the ball well with 31 sets in the 79-minute match.
The Coyotes raced to a 16-4 lead in the opener and for the 16th time this season took the opening set.
With Tolan serving and CSUSB up 11-10, the senior helped her club with two service aces and the Coyotes increased the lead to 14-10. The Otters got no closer than two points and struggled in the set with five attack errors.
CSUMB didn't back down and grabbed an 8-1 lead after a Middleborn attack error to begin the third set.
Slowly, the Coyotes climbed back into the set.
Megan Johnson capped an 11-4 run that tied the set at 12 apiece. The set was tied again at 15-15, but with Carty serving, Middleborn got a kill and an attack error from the Otters gave CSUSB a two-point lead, 17-15, and the Coyotes stayed in front for the win.
The Coyotes are at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night.
CSUMB (6-8, 3-8) was led by Melanie Lashbrook's five kills.
