SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior
Julian Garcia played in all 17 games heading into Sunday's season finale against San Francisco State.
The Yucaipa forward had not scored a goal this season, but on Senior Day he savored the most important day of the year with a monumental shot that won't be forgotten.
Garcia took a PK at the 101st minute of play and delivered with a goal as the host Coyotes defeated San Francisco State 2-1 in the second overtime to close the 2011 season.
CSUSB finished 2011 at 7-9-2 overall and 5-9-2 in the CCAA and closed the year with consecutive wins for the only time this year.
The teams were tied at 0-0 at the half and
Daniel Lopez put the Coyotes on the scoreboard when he fired a goal at the 54th minute. Teammate
Marco Martinez kicked the ball high downfield and Lopez got to the ball under control and drove a shot into the net for the lead.
Six minutes later, SFSU tied the game at 1-1 on Jose Vitela's shot. Teammate Edgar Villagrana had a shot that was saved by Coyotes GK
Ron Shviro, but the ball popped out and Vitela followed.
SFSU had five shots in the first OT, but couldn't put the game away.
The game featured the Coyotes' four seniors, who played in their final game of their careers.
Brett Faggioni, Garcia,
Jordan Rodino and
D.J. Vigil were honored in a pregame ceremony.
SFSU finished 5-11-2, 4-11-1.
