SAN BERNARDINO
-- For only the second time in school history, the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes have opened a season by winning their first 20 matches.

The third-ranked Coyotes improved their unbeaten record with a convincing 3-0 win over Cal State L.A. on the strength of their .352 attack percentage in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday night before a season-best crowd of 547 at Coussoulis Arena.

Senior OH Priscilla Collings finished the weekend impressively with a match-high 16 kills on 36 attack for a .417 average in the 25-14, 25-18, 25-15 victory. She finished this week's two matches with a team-best 25 kills on just one error in 51 attacks.

Senior All-American Samantha Middleborn had 13 kills with three block assists as the Coyotes also stretched their home winning streak to 56 consecutive matches and their 39 consecutive CCAA home win.

Junior All-American setter Camille Smith had her fourth double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs. Senior Morgan Carty had a match-high 16 digs along with seven kills. Senior MB Megan Johnson had six kills.

The Coyotes held the Golden Eagles (9-11, 6-9) to just five kills on four errors in winning the first set. CSUSB held a .351 attack percentage in the opener. Two service aces from the Golden Eagles' Shea Hamilton cut CSUSB's lead to 14-11, but an 8-2 run by the Coyotes put them comfortably out front. Collings had three kills in that pivotal momentum builder.

Set two featured five ties, but after the set was at 12-12, CSUSB got going. Two errors from CSULA gave the Coyotes a two-point lead and Carty later added three kills to push CSUSB ahead 20-15.

CSUSB played at its best in the third set, hitting a .556 average on just two errors.

Marquis Mora, Hamilton and Natalia Gonzalez each had six kills for CSULA.

The Coyotes will attempt to tie school records for best start and consecutive winning streak when they take on Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night in Turlock.

The 20th win marks the 15th consecutive season that head coach Kim Cherniss'  teams have accomplished that feat.
