SAN BERNARDINO
-- A late goal meant the difference between regulation and OT in the Coyotes' game against No. 13 Cal State L.A. on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles' Taylor Rivas found an opportunity at the 87th minute and the two teams finished with a 1-1 tie in extended play before a crowd of 248 at Coyote Premier Field on Sunday.

The tie puts CSUSB at 5-8-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the CCAA heading into next week's games against Sonoma State (Friday) and Humboldt State (Sunday). The Coyotes are officially eliminated from postseason play, but coach Noah Kooiman figures to have his team ready to play the spoiler role in their final four regular-season games.

Senior Brett Faggioni got the game going early when he scored off a corner kick from Juan Galarza. The Mesa, Ariz., native found an opening and received the ball on the right side of CSULA GK Waleed Cassis and went left with the tally.

The game was physical with 32 total fouls after 110 minutes.

CSULA time and again created offensive opportunities in the second half, but the Coyotes' defense and GK Tanner Olinger stood them up. But at 87:37, Rivas received the ball inside a scrum and scored to tie the game at 1-1.

In the first OT, CSULA had two shots to the Coyotes' one, but neither team had an answer and the game was pushed into the second OT.

CSUSB had control in the final period, but four total shots couldn't get into the net.

CSULA stands at 8-1-5 overall and 6-1-5 in the CCAA South and in third place behind CSU Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Pomona.
