Box Score: CSUMB 82, Coyotes 80
SEASIDE -- Derrick Anderson's two free throws with six seconds left lifted Cal State Monterey Bay to an 82-80 victory over Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball Saturday night.
After Davion Berry gave CSUMB an 80-77 lead with 13 seconds left, the Coyotes answered right back. Senior
Robbie Robinson, who hadn't hit a 3-pointer all night, connected from outside and tied the game at 80-apiece with just 13 seconds left.
The Otters broke through on the press and Anderson went to the line for two shots after being fouled. He hit both shots and the Otters called time-out before the Coyotes set their play.
But
Corey Caston's jumper with a second left was off and the Otters held on for the win.
It marked the first two-game losing streak for the Coyotes, who are 10-7 overall and 8-5 in the CCAA.
Junior
Nate Roth scored a career-high 23 points for CSUSB, but missed the final 50 seconds of the game. While chasing down a loose ball, Roth was fouled from behind and spent several minutes on the court. He left for the locker room and did not return.
The Otters were led by Berry's 41 points – the most scored against the Coyotes this season.
Neither team held a lead larger than five points and the game was tied 15 times with 20 lead changes.
Caston had 16 points for the Coyotes and sophomore
Kwame Alexander had 13.
CSUSB returns to the court Friday night as it begins a stretch of seven of nine games at home. The Coyotes face nationally-ranked CSU Dominguez Hills, which was upset at Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
The Coyotes and Toros tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
