ARCATA --
Jose Godinez scored just 1:19 into Friday night's match with host Humboldt State and then added another goal 61 minutes later as Cal State San Bernardino opened California Collegiate Athletic Association soccer play with a 3-0 victory over the Lumberjacks.
Obi Agwu, the CCAA player of the week for his four-goal performance against Grand Canyon and Colorado State Pueblo last weekend, put the Coyotes up 2-0 in the 36th minute with his five goal of the season off an assist by Godinez.
The Coyotes are now 3-0 on the season, 1-0 in CCAA as they prepare to face perennial CCAA power Sonoma State on Sunday in Rohnert Park. HSU is now 0-2-1 overall.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Tanner Olinger went the distance for the Coyotes recording his second straight shutout.
Godinez's first goal was an unassisted effort, a blast from 30 yards out over the head of 'Jacks goalkeeper Kyle Verle. In the 36th minute, Godinez played a through ball that Agwu planted in the lower left corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
Freshman
Julio Ayala set Godinez up for the final score of the night with a nice through ball that Godinez knocked high into the net near the far post.
The Coyotes outshot Humboldt 13-8 but trailed in corner kicks 6-5. Olinger made five saves in goal for CSUSB while Verle stopped five Coyote tries before a crowd of 200 fans at HSU's field.
