Box Score

ARCATA — Cal State San Bernardino held Cal Poly Pomona scoreless the final 3:39 of the CCAA Tournament Championship game as the Coyotes won their second straight tournament title with a 58-52 win over the Broncos.

Last year, CSUSB had the luxury of winning the tournament title in its own backyard, but this year had to travel 740 miles to bring home the CCAA banner. The win is also the sixth straight for the Coyotes (22-7).

Bryan LeDuc, who was named the CCAA Tournament MVP, scored a game-high 17 points, going 6-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. LeDuc notched his eighth double-double of the season with a game-high 12 rebounds as well.

Aaron Hill added 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. He also pulled down five boards and notched three steals. Lawrence Tyson and Devon Davis each scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds. Corey Caston scored six points and dished out five assists.

Neither team shot over 38 percent as the Coyotes fired 37.8 percent (17-for-45) from the field while the Broncos shot 37.5 percent (18-for-48). CSUSB also outrebounded CPP 38-34.

In the first half, the Coyotes jumped out to a 9-2 lead before Cal Poly Pomona answered with five straight to make it 9-7. CSUSB then went on a 10-0 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 19-7. The Coyotes later led 27-18 with 1:52 left to play before the Broncos scored the last five points of the half to make it 27-23 at intermission.

The Coyotes pushed the lead out to 32-25 early in the second half, but Pomona used a 9-1 run to take its first lead of the game at 34-33. CSUSB retook the lead at 36-35 on a traditional 3-point play by Bryan LeDuc.

CSUSB led 39-37 with 10:37 left when CPP used a 9-2 run to lead 46-41 with 6:25 left. Later the Broncos led 49-44 with 4:19 to play on a pair of free throws.

That's when the Coyotes turned it up a notch on the defensive end.

Cal Poly Pomona shot just 1-for-7 from the floor in the final four minutes of the game and turned the ball over twice as the Coyotes went 3-for-4 and hit six free throws and closed out the game with a 14-3 run.

Now it's all in the hands of the selection committee and what seed the Coyotes will get in the West Region Tournament. CSUSB will find out Tuesday, as the West Region bracket will be released a day after the rest of the nation due to tsunami warnings that pushed the Pac West Tournament back.
