TURLOCK —
Britney Butler hit her seventh home run of the season to give Cal State San Bernardino a much-needed boost in a 4-3 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in the first game of a doubleheader. Carly Land gave up only two runs on six hits in the nightcap, but the Coyotes can't get the offense going, dropping the game 2-1.

The Warriors got on the board first in the early game. Missy Corral took a full-count walk and scored on an Erica McIntyre triple to right field. Coyote's pitcher Brianne Godfredson got the next two batters out to strand McIntyre at third base.

The Coyotes were held hitless until the fourth inning when they rallied to take the lead. Courtney Wilhelms led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Felicia Cervantes. Ashley Collinwood hit an RBI single to score Wilhelms and then scored on a double by Stephanie Pace. Vanessa Justin drove pace home with a single, giving CSUSB a 3-1 lead.

CSUS cut the lead to 3-2 in its half of the fourth. Veronica Luna singled to center, Nikky Rissetto doubled down the right field line and Cassandra Carlos walked to load the bases. Erica Prentice came in to pitch and walked the first batter she faced to bring in a run. She bounced back and got Corral to foul out and prevent further damage.

Butler led off the fifth with a blast to left field that put the Coyotes up 4-2.  It was an insurance run that proved key for the Coyotes.

The Warriors battled back in the bottom half of the inning. CSUS loaded the bases on three walks. McIntyre came home on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-3, but Rissetto popped out to shortstop to end the inning.

Cassidy Lee came in to pitch the final two innings for the Coyotes. She allowed no runs on one hit and notched her first save of the season. Godfredson (6-3) got the win, while Warriors starter Brittani Weatherford (1-10) took the loss.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap when Sarah Locarnini singled, stole second and scored on a Corral single to right center.

The Coyotes tied it up in the sixth inning. Holtzclaw doubled to left field and advanced to third on a ground out by Wilhelms. Jamie Leffingwell singled Holtzclaw home to make it 1-1.

Cal State Stanislaus got the run back in the sixth. Land, who started the second game, hit the first batter she faced. Luna laid down a bunt, but third baseman Alex Mitchell made a bad throw and both runners were safe. With runners at first and second, Rissetto singled up the middle to score Balanesi. The run gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead and pitcher Jennifer Arnold (3-9) made it stick with a complete-game victory. Land moved to 0-7 on the year

The Coyotes (12-17, CCAA 10-8) and The Warriors (4-19-1, CCAA 2-16) will play another doubleheader Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
