SAN BERNARDINO — Cal State San Bernardino entered Friday's doubleheader with No. 11 and defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champion Humboldt State with just two home runs on the year. The Coyotes hit five home runs in a 10-4, 7-4 sweep over the Lumberjacks, winning their first to games of conference play.

Ashley Collinwood and Stefanie Pace each had two home runs for the Coyotes (3-3, 2-0 CCAA) while Britney Butler hit her third of the season.

Collinwood went a combined 4-for-7 with five RBIs in the doubleheader.

In the opener, Humboldt struck first with a run on a Coyote error, but CSUSB answered back when Collinwood blasted her first home run to right center to knot the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. The Coyotes took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Jacquelyn Holtzclaw singled up the middle to score Alex Mitchell.

The Lumberjacks retook the lead in the top of the sixth with a three run shot that ricocheted off the left field foul poll to lead 4-2.

CBUSB answered in the bottom of the sixth, scoring eight runs. Collinwood and Felicia Cervantes started the inning with back-to-back singles, before Pace launched a three-run bomb to left center to give the lead back to Cal State San Bernardino at 5-4. Carly Land followed up Pace with a single and Mitchell put runners at second and third with a ground-rule double to left field. The Jacks then loaded the bases with an intentional walk to Holtzclaw, but Courtney Wilhelms spoiled a chance of any force out with a two-RBI single up the middle. Collinwood then capped the inning in the next at bat with a three-run, opposite field home run to left center to give the Coyotes a 10-4 lead.

Collinwood went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, all coming off home runs. Cervantes also went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Holtzclaw went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Erica Prentice (1-1) picked up the win, throwing the final 1.1 innings in relief for Brianne Godfredson who tossed the first 5.2. Godfredson allowed just three earned runs and scattered seven hits and Prentice put it away allowing just two hits.

The Jacks scored two early in the top of the first in the nightcap, but the Coyotes got one run back in the bottom half of the inning when Wilhelms drove a double up against the right center field fence, scoring Holtzclaw from first.

CSUSB took control again in the bottom of the second with a pair of two-run home runs by Pace and Butler. After Pricilla Curiel reached base on an error to start the inning, Pace then ripped her second home run of the day to center field. Mitchell then singled before Butler blasted her third home run of the year to center to put the Coyotes up 5-2.

The Jacks made it a one-run game, at 5-4, in the fourth with two runs, but a Butler sacrifice fly and a Collinwood single drove in the final two runs to put the Coyotes up 7-4. The Jacks appeared to have tied the game in the top of the sixth with a three-run home run, but after the top of the inning was completed the game was called because of darkness.

With the game called after the top half of the inning, the game reverted back to the last full inning and that left the Coyotes with a 7-4 win.

Cassidy Lee (1-0) went the distance, throwing the entire five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two. Butler went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a runs scored while Holtzclaw went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Wilhelms went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Mitchell went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The two are scheduled to play tomorrow for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
