Box Score: No. 16 Coyotes 3, CSU East Bay 1
HAYWARD -- The difficult road task of playing in La Jolla 48 hours later didn't seem to faze senior Ogi Agwu. It could be said that he reveled in the experience.
The Alta Loma native scored a personal-best three goals Sunday afternoon as the No. 16 Coyotes routed the host Cal State East Bay Pioneers 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
The victory places CSUSB at 7-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCAA South.
Agwu is the leading goal scorer in the CCAA and Sunday's performance will keep him steady at the top.
Goal No. 1 gave CSUSB an early lead just 16 minutes into the contest. Freshman
Martin Esqueda worked the ball inside and found Agwu, who pounded the ball past GK Bryce Brookhamer.
The lead held at halftime, but the Pioneers tied the game in the 53rd minute from Josh Alvarez' header.
But Agwu would answer again and again. The go-ahead goal arrived in the 76th minute from
Corey Hostetter and six minutes later, the Esqueda-Agwu combination took place one more time. Agwu found himself near the net and rocketed a shot off the rebound from Esqueda.
The Coyotes out-shot the Pioneers 26-10.
CSUSB returns to Coyote Premier Field on Friday when it takes on San Francisco State.
