Box Score: No. 8 Coyotes def. Sonoma State 3-0

SAN BERNARDINO
-- Forty, thirty, twenty and fourteen.

Nice round numbers that weren't Friday's Mega Millions picks, but were milestones the No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino women's volleyball team accomplished with its 3-0 win over visiting Sonoma State in CCAA play.

The Coyotes won their 40th consecutive home match, their 30th consecutive CCAA home match and for the 14th consecutive year, the Coyotes have won at least 20 matches in a season.

Heady numbers for coach Kim Cherniss' program as the Coyotes, now 20-2 overall and 16-1 in the CCAA, won decisively 25-19, 25-15, 25-21 before 238 in attendance at Coussoulis Arena.

Senior All-American Jane Chafeh and senior Nicole Moore each had 10 kills as the Coyotes threw down a .299 attack percentage (44-15-97) in the 71-minute match. Junior libero Kelcie Tolan led with 14 digs and Moore added four block assists and Chafeh had two solo blocks.

Sonoma State entered the night ranked fifth in this week's NCAA West Region poll, but this was a night that belonged to the Coyotes. The Seawolves (12-8, 9-7) fired just a .132 attack percentage and had 19 attack errors. They had difficulty handling the Coyotes' serve as they were credited with seven reception errors.

Leading 4-3 in the second set, CSUSB took advantage early with a 9-1 run that put the Coyotes comfortably in the lead. They had a .500 percentage in the set (14 kills, 3 errors and 22 attacks) and went into intermission up 2-0.

A Megan Johnson kill gave the Coyotes a 15-13 lead and after a Seawolf attack error, Chafeh added a kill to give CSUSB a four-point cushion and they would finish off SSU.

Sophomore Camille Smith had 37 assists on the night wiht five digs and four kills. Johnson was 6-1-9 and will remain among the top 35 attack hitters in the nation. She entered the match ranked 31st in the country at .359.

CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday against Humboldt State. A Coyote victory would clinch the CCAA regular-season title and the automatic NCAA berth.
