Junior forward
Unity Beddingfield one-timed a crossing pass into the net with 1:01 left in the second overtime Sunday to give Cal State San Bernardino a 2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer victory over Sonoma State.
The Coyotes won their third straight match and improved to 4-4 on the season and 3-1 in the CCAA while the Seawolves are now 3-4-1, 1-2-1 in the CCAA.
CSUSB trailed throughout most of regulation after Sonoma State went up 1-0 on a penalty kick by Lindsay Catton just 10:58 into the match after Tracy Webster was fouled by CSUSB goalkeeper
Laura Lyons in the box as her shot went just wide of the goal.
The Seawolves defense kept the Coyotes at bay until sophomore
Casey Hirsch found a ball at her feet in close to the goal following a corner kick by senior
Lauren Zellmer and a header by junior
Jenna Sanchez and put the ball away for a 1-1 deadlock.
After a scoreless first overtime, the Coyotes were able to get the ball deep into the corner and freshman
Allison Pena delivered a crossing pass that made it past other players to Beddingfield who ran onto the ball and booted it in the net for her second goal of the season.
Lyons had seven saves in goal for CSUSB while Sonoma State keeper Courtney Grixti had five saves. It was only the fourth win for the Coyotes over SSU, which now leads the all-time series 13-4-1.
