TURLOCK -- Unbeaten and No. 2-ranked Cal State San Bernardino cruised past Cal State Stanislaus, 3-0, Saturday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's volleyball match in Warrior gym.
The Coyotes are now 11-0 on the season, 4-0 in the CCAA while the Warriors dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Scores of the sets were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-17.
CSUSB takes over sole possession of first place in the conference following San Francisco State's 3-2 win over previously unbeaten and 13th-ranked Sonoma State on Friday night and the Coyotes' 3-1 win over Chico State on Friday.
It was the 17th straight win over the Warriors for CSUSB which now has a 21-2 record against Stanislaus since that school entered the CCAA in 1998-99. The last Warriors win was Nov. 3, 2000.
Jane Chafeh,
Samantha Middleborn and
Nicole Moore led a balanced Coyotes attack. Chafeh, coming off a 25-kill night at Chico State, had nine kills and eight digs. Middleborn had nine kills on .438 hitting with four blocks, two of them solo. Moore had eight kills.
Senior
Ashtin Hall had seven kills and seven digs while
Morgan Carty had six kills and six digs.
Setter
Sara Hoffman had 26 assists and eight digs. The Coyotes hit just .229 for the match, well below their season average of .300-plus.
Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with a match-high 10 kills. Melissa Bishop had nine kills and four blocks, one solo. Setter Nicki Brown had 26 assists. The Warriors hit just .160 for the night.
