Cal State San Bernardino seniors
Tori Beaudette and
Debbie Shisler were selected Monday as the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association softball player and pitcher of the week for April 7-12.
Beaudette batted .538 with two homers and six runs batted in while Shisler pitched two complete game victories as the Coyotes took three of four games from NCAA West Region No. 6 UC San Diego over the weekend.
The victories enabled the Coyotes to even their conference record at 12-12 with eight games remaining. CSUSB is 21-27 overall and still has a shot at a .500 overall record that it needs to qualify record-wise for a shot at the NCAA tournament.
Beaudette, the team's leading hitter through 48 games at .330, was seven for 13 (.538) in four games against the Tritons, scoring five runs and driving in six. She made five putouts in left field without an error. She posted a .571 on-base percentage in the series along with a 1.077 slugging percentage. Her solo blast in the final game of the series gave CSUSB an insurance run in a 2-0 victory.
The Palmdale resident who transferred to Cal State two years ago from Mount San Antonio College has four homers and 15 RBI this season. Her nine doubles ranks third on the team and her 23 runs scored is second-most on the team. She has stolen eight bases in nine tries.
Beaudette has been hit by a pitch 14 times this season.
Shisler, of Phoenix, Ariz., appeared in three of the four games at UCSD, pitching a total of 15 innings, giving up 14 hits, six runs (all earned) with just one walk, one hit batter and three strikeouts. She got 31 outs on infield ground balls.
After posting a 7-6 win in the second game of the series, Shisler tossed a three-hit shutout in the series finale to improve her 2009 record to 12-8, extend her number of complete games this season to 15 and her number of shutouts to five.
Shisler's earned run average in 30 appearances this season is now 1.77 through 142 innings to lead the CCAA pitching corps in that department.
She also plays the outfield and batted .500 against UCSD with seven hits in 14 at bats and five runs scored and one RBI. Shisler is hitting an even .300 on the season and her 39 hits is third-most on the team.
This award was the second that Shisler has received this season. She was an all-CCAA first-team selection in 2008.
