Chico State blanks Coyotes twice

Wildcats pitchers hurl back-to-back baseball shutouts, 2-0, 4-0

Kyle Davis had a hit in both games Saturday as CSUSB dropped a twinbill to Chico State.
CHICO -- Cal State San Bernardino mustered just 10 hits in 17 innings against some outstanding Chico State pitching Saturday and lost both ends of a CCAA baseball doubleheader, 2-0 and 4-0 at Nettleton Stadium on the Chico State campus.
The Wildcats take the series 3-1 and are now 7-5 on the season while the Coyotes are 1-3 in the CCAA and 5-9 overall.
In the first game, Jordan Lindebaum and Ian Waldron combined on a five-hit shutout. Each struck out two. Lindebaum went seven innings, gave up all five hits while Waldron pitched two innings of hitless ball for the save. The Coyotes stranded eight runners and Chico turned two double plays to curtail CSUSB rallies.
Jimmy Dodos belted a solo home run in the sixth for Chico's insurance run in the opener.
Coyotes starter Joe Martinez went seven innings, allowing eight hits but only two runs, one of them unearned and fanned two. Chris Cassidy finished up in the eighth.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats' Joel Garcia pitched a complete game, five-hitter, fanning three batters and walking none before a crowd of 349 fans. CSUSB starter Aaron Brooks absorbed four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings to take the loss.
Chico took a 1-0 lead in the second and then scored three times in the fifth in the seven-inning nightcap.
The Coyotes will host Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game CCAA series at Arrowhead Credit Union Park, starting Friday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
