Freshman
Matt Winn stroked a three-run homer to spark a five-run, first-inning outburst as Cal State San Bernardino defeated Dixie State, 9-5, Sunday, in the finale of their three-game series at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.
Winn got offensive help from senior centerfielder
Johnnie Haas who went three-for-four and drove in a run with a pair of doubles. Haas drove in
Cody Madison with what proved to be the winning run in the second inning.
The Coyotes are now 4-6 on the season as they prepare to open CCAA conference play next weekend at Chico State with a four-game series.
Dixie State left 1-4. The Coyotes won the first game Saturday 6-5 in 11 innings and then Dixie took the seven-inning nightcap 13-5.
Junior Casey Cassidy came out of the bullpen to rescue CSUSB starter
Aaron Brooks in the fourth inning Sunday. Cassidy proceeded to pitch 4.1 innings of hitless relief, striking out five batters to get credit for the victory.
CSUSB turned three double plays in the game.
