Godinez' late goal enables Coyotes men to get a 2-2 tie with Wildcats

Jose Godinez' fourth goal of the season gave CSUSB a 2-2 tie with Chico State Friday.

     Junior Jose Godinez headed in a goal off a free kick and a flick deep in the box Friday with 1:19 left in regulation to tie Chico State 2-2 before the teams fought through two overtimes to end with a tie in a CCAA conference men's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.
    Godinez's fourth goal of the season came after the Wildcats forged a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute when Evan Armstrong's blast from the 18 yard line smacked the cross bar, dropped straight down and spun into the goal for a 2-1 Chico State lead.
    The double-overtime tie left the Coyotes with an 11-3-1 record, 7-3-1 in the CCAA while the Wildcats are now 7-4-4 overall and 4-3-4 in the conference. The Coyotes host Cal State Stanislaus at 11:30 a.m. Sunday while the 'Cats are at Cal Poly Pomona.
    Junior goalkeeper Arath De La Rocha had five saves, all in regulation for the Coyotes while Chico goalkeeper Michael Keohane had four saves in 110 minutes of play.
    The Coyotes broke on top in the 73rd minute when CSUSB junior Albert Cabrera won a loose ball from the goalkeeper and placed a shot into the far corner of the net for his team-leading ninth goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
    Chico State responded 29 seconds later after taking control of the ball at midfield and scored on Chris Akwaja's fourth goal of the season, a shot over the keeper off the first of two assists in the match by Luis Martinez.
    After Armstrong's goal put the Wildcats up, the Coyotes tested the Chico State defense and finally got the equalizer at 88:41 when senior Jeremiah Marquez placed a free kick deep in the box and sophomore Billy Pellow flicked it to Godinez who finished the job just inside the near post.
