For the second week in a row, Cal State San Bernardino right-side hitter
Jessica Granados has been named Molten California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 1-7.
Granados, a junior from Beaumont, Calif. and the reigning CCAA Player of the Year, was named to the all-tournament team after turning in another solid performance in helping the top-ranked Coyotes post a 4-0 record at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.
As a result, the Coyotes remained No. 1 in the AVCA Division II coach's national poll with a 7-0 record.
Seeing significant playing time in three of her team's four games, Granados averaged 4.42 kills per game while posting a .380 hitting percentage. She also averaged 1.58 digs per game and 1.08 blocks per game as the Coyotes swept Seattle Pacific and Notre Dame de Namur, and topped No. 24 BYU-Hawaii and Lynn University in four sets.
Against BYU Hawaii, Granados collected 17 kills, hit .438, one assist and three digs. She followed that effort with 18 kills, a .372 hitting percentage, once ace, nine digs, two solo blocks and five block assists versus Lynn. She tallied 17 kills, a .395 hitting percentage, an ace and seven digs against Seattle Pacific.
The Coyotes open CCAA play on Friday at 7 p.m. when it visits Cal State Monterey Bay.
In the national poll the Coyotes received 29 first-place votes, well ahead of No. 2 Washburn, Kan., No. 3 Concordia-St. Paul and No. 4 Tampa. They received a total of six first-place votes between them.
UC San Diego moved up to 15th in the poll off its 6-1 record while Cal State L.A. was ranked No. 21 at 7-0. Cal Poly Pomona is ranked 23rd and Chico State is No. 25.
