TURLOCK -- Cal State San Bernardino scored its first road victory of the season Friday, defeating host Cal State Stanislaus, 4-3, on a goal late in the second half by senior
Miguel Alatorre.
The victory improved the Coyotes to 2-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CCAA's South Division as they now prepare to face Chico State on Sunday in Chico.
Other CSUSB goals came off the foot of sophomore
Albert Cabrera, his first of the season; sophomore
Obi Agwu -- the CCAA player of the week who now has four goals on the season; sophomore
Harry Cruz, his first of 2008 and Alatorre, his second score of the season. Cabrera also assisted on two goals including the match-winner.
Cal State Stanislaus is now 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.
The host Warriors went ahead 2-0 in the first 29 minutes on goals by Bladimir Murillo (rebound of a shot off the goal post) and Andrew Ruiz.
However, CSUSB made it 2-1 at the half on Cabrera's goal at 29:30 assisted by junior
Jahmel McDermott.
Agwu tied up the match at 2-2 at 70:54 off an assist by Cabrera. Matthew Johnson, who assisted on Murillo's goal earlier, then put CSUS ahead 3-2 at 71:20.
Five minutes later, Cruz got the equalizer on a header from a delivery by Agwu. The match decider came at 81;03 when Alatorre put in a goal that caromed in off the post off an assist by Cabrera.
Tyler Kahn went the distance in goal for CSUSB and made one save. Javier Rosales had four saves for the Warriors. CSUSB outshot the hosts 18-12.
