Concordia Irvine edges Coyotes, 3-2

Late Eagles goal nullifies CSUSB men's rally from 2-0 deficit to tie match

Brock Steele scored his first goal of season to give team a lift in match against Concordia Irvine.
Jon Fahey's third goal of the season with three minutes left in regulation lifted Concordia University Irvine to a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer victory over Cal State San Bernardino Monday at Coyote Premier Field.
Fahey finished off a short pass from Eric Mendoza to pull out the win after the Coyotes had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match at 2-2 in the 84th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore Obi Agwu, the CCAA conference player of the week.
The Eagles are now 3-3 as they try to regain the form that saw them post a 19-4 record in 2007 and a runnerup finish in the NAIA national championship tournament. CSUSB is now 1-3-1 as it resumes CCAA conference play on Friday at Cal State Stanislaus.
Concordia started fast with Joel Smith finding himself unmarked for a shot from outside the 18-yard line that struck the net inside the far post just 1:59 into the match. Shanon Murphy found Smith alone on the left flank and fed him the ball.
Five minutes into the second half, the Eagles made it 2-0 on Mendoza's third goal of the season on an assist from Fahey.
The Coyotes were able to wrest some momentum from the Eagles after junior Brock Steele struck a hard shot into the upper net from outside the 18 and straight away after being set up by Jeremiah Marquez's serve.
Agwu then knotted the score when he was tripped in the penalty area and secured the penalty shot with a low shot inside the near post, beating Eagles goalkeeper James Rammelsberg.
CSUSB outshot the Eagles 15-8. Hammelsburg saved four shots while CSUSB keeper Arath De La Rocha had three saves.
