Cal State San Bernardino's
Jessica Granados has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association player of the week after leading the Coyotes to three victories in the Coyote Volleyball Classic this past week.
Granados, the CCAA MVP and first-team all-American in 2007, was voted the most valuable player in the tournament by coaches of participating teams after leading CSUSB to 3-0 sweeps of No. 1-ranked Concordia-St. Paul and No. 15-ranked Lewis University.
In those matches, Granados accounted for 42 kills (5.85 kills per game). She played sparingly in a 3-0 victory over winless Shippensburg.
Against the defending NCAA Division II champion Golden Bears of Concordia, Granados had a match-high 23 kills in 37 attacks with five errors for a .486 hitting percentage. She contributed one assist, seven digs and three block assists as well.
In the 3-0 sweep of Lewis, she registered a match-high 17 kills on .364 hitting with a service ace, four digs and a block assist. She saw action briefly in two sets against Shippensburg as Head Coach
Kim Cherniss relied heavily on first- and second-year players.
The Coyotes, ranked No. 4 in the nation going into the tournament, head for UC San Diego to compete in the Tritons Tournament on Friday and Saturday, opening up with Seattle Pacific on Friday.
