Cal State San Bernardino's mad bombers

Reggie Brown hit eight three-pointers between them in the second half Sunday as the Coyotes roared past points University of Alaska Fairbanks 87-65 in a non-conference men's basketball game at Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes, 1-0, overcame a 14-point first-half deficit and frigid shooting to hit 19 of 33 field goals in the second half (57 percent) to hand the Nanooks their second loss of the new season.
Kinney, a 6-6 redshirt sophomore from Beaumont, was on fire from beyond the new three-point line, draining seven of nine shots for a game- and career-high 21 points. Five of his threes came in the second half as the Coyotes finally caught up with the Nanooks and passed them 52-50 on Kinney's bomb with 14:16 left in the game.
Kinney hit another three for a 58-56 CSUSB lead with 8:07 left and after a
Larry DeHughes basket, Kinney connected again for a 63-56 Coyotes lead with 6:59 left. After
Tavaris Gilbert scored on a layup, Kinney hit still another bomb for a 68-57 lead with 5:39 left.
Brown, a senior, took over after that and hit a pair of three's from the corner to give CSUSB a 77-58 lead with 3:12 remaining. All of Brown's nine points came late in the second half after going 0-3 in the first half. He also had five steals.
Three other Coyotes were in double figures – junior guard
Larry DeHughes had 13 points and four rebounds; senior DuBois Willliams had 12 points, six assists and five steals; and Gilbert finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Jon Moe got the Nanooks off to a fast start, scoring 13 of his team-high 20 points in the first half to help put his team up by 14 at 23-9 and then take a 41-35 lead to the locker room. Moe hit four 3-pointers in the game. Nashorn Maynard had a big double-double with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
CSUSB's defense, non-existent in most of the first half, took control midway through the second half and wound up with 23 steals and forcing 28 Nanooks turnovers. Fairbanks shot just 30 percent in the final 20 minutes, making just nine of 30 attempts.
The Coyotes wound up shooting 45 percent for the game (30 of 66) and 54 percent from the three (12 of 22) and 83 percent from the foul line (15 of 18).
Fairbanks made just four of 19 shots from long range (21 percent), all by Moe.
