Pomona ties up CSUSB men

Steele, Alatorre score for Coyotes in 2-2 OT deadlock with Broncos

Senior Miguel Alatorre scored the first goal for CSUSB in tie with Cal Poly Pomona Wednesday night.
POMONA -- Cal State San Bernardino's men's soccer team enjoyed the lead in Wednesday night's CCAA conference match for about as long as it takes to cook Minute Rice.
After junior Brock Steele put the Coyotes ahead 2-1 in the 57th minute at Kellogg Field, Tyler Reinhart responded 60 seconds later for Cal Poly Pomona with his third goal of the season to knot the match at 2-2. That's the way it ended after regulation and two overtimes consuming 110 minutes.
The Coyotes did emerge with a point from the tie to improve their overall record to 6-9-2 and 5-4-2 in the CCAA, giving them 17 points and a temporary, at least, tie for third place in the CCAA's South Division with UC San Diego.
The Broncos are now 4-8-3 overall and 2-7-2 in the CCAA, bringing up the rear in the division.
After Cal Poly went up 1-0 on Mark Golgowski's first goal of the season, the Coyotes tied the match on a goal by senior co-captain Miguel Alatorre (his fourth of the season) in the 26th minute.  The teams relaxed at intermission with the match a 1-1 tie.
Steele then scored his third goal of the season off an assist by junior Jahmel McDermott for a brief 2-1 lead that evaporated on Reinhart's goal.
The tie was some form of consolation for Pomona, which lost 4-1 to the Coyotes at CSUSB's Premier Field in the conference opener on Sept. 10.
The Coyotes' next match, also on the road, will be at Cal State L.A. on Sunday.
