Chico State rallies to beat Coyotes men, 3-1

Rodriguez scores lone CSUSB goal in loss

Junior forward A.J. Carboneau assisted in two goals and scored one himself Friday to lead Chico State to a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over host Cal State San Bernardino in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.
The Coyotes led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by junior forward Daniel Rodriguez off an assist by senior James Pusey that occurred just 2:15 into the match.
However, Chico State scored twice in a two-minute span early in the second half to gain the lead and tacked on an insurance goal in the 86th minute to improve to 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in the CCAA. The Coyotes dipped to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats defense stifled the Coyotes for most of the match, allowing just three shots on goal, all by Rodriguez. Chico State goalkeeper Brian Linne did not have to make one save but did redirect a header in the box intended for Coyotes forward Lorenzo Loson late in the second half.
Scott Lucky scored his first goal of the season in the 49th minute, redirecting a cross from Carboneau into the net. Two minutes later, Carboneau set up Zach Bradford for his first goal of the season for a 2-1 Wildcats lead. Carboneau then took a pass from Logan Tucker and scored the clincher.
Chico had 12 shots on goal in the match and Coyotes keeper Lucas Pepi stopped three of them.
