Brian Thames scored on a diving header off a crossing pass from teammate Justin Ongaro in the 66th minute Friday to give Point Loma Nazarene a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over host Cal State San Bernardino in the 2007 season opener for both teams.
    The Sea Lions, 1-0, drew first blood in the 42nd minute when Macaine Piercy came off the bench to score on a header from a serve by Thames.
    The Coyotes, 0-1, responded in the 52nd minute when senior defender Brent Broadhurst headed in a corner kick off the foot of senior James Pusey. That set the stage for Thames' match-deciding goal. 
    CSUSB missed two open shots at the goal that could have reversed the decision.
    Bryan Louzil made a  pair of saves in goal for Point Loma, an NAIA school and member of the Golden State Athletic Conference, while Lucas Pepi stopped five shots on goal for the Coyotes, members of NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.
