Coyotes reach region volleyball title match; beat L.A. 3-1

CSUSB will face Western Washington in 8th straight region title match

Sharea Drawn (5) drives home a spike.
No. 1 seed Cal State San Bernardino cruised into the NCAA Div. II Pacific Region championship match for an unprecedented eighth straight year Friday night with a 3-1 victory over No. 5 seed Cal State L.A. in Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes, 27-2, will face No. 2 seed Western Washington, 23-4, at 7 p.m. Saturday in a bid to capture a third regional title and a berth in the 2007 national championship set for Nov. 29-Dec.1.
Junior rightside hitter Jessica Granados led the Coyotes with 21 kills on .390 hitting while senior middle blocker Sharea Drawn had 18 kills on .485 hitting with eight block assists in defeating the Golden Eagles (17-10) by scores of 30-26, 21-30, 30-24 and 30-19 before 660 fans.
Sophomore setter Sara Hoffman posted 59 assists to go with four service aces and 11 digs while sophomore outside hitter Ashtin Hall contributed 10 kills and three block assists.
Four Cal State L.A. players were in double figures in kills led by senior Bianca Gorospe with 14 kills on .400 hitting. Lindsay Laakso had 13 kills and nine digs. Senior Airess Padda concluded her senior season with 12 kills and setter Keslie Brown contributed 50 assists.
"I think I am more nervous in these kinds of matches than my players because I don't have any control about what takes place on the court. I can't physically do what the players do," said Coyotes Head Coach Kim Cherniss
"But when I look at the numbers that Jessica and Sharea put up, it speaks well of these players that they are so determined to get things done. I know when they are going to take over a match. It started last night (against Western Oregon) and continued tonight. This is their journey."
