Cal State San Bernardino scored in the first four minutes of its CCAA conference men's soccer match against Cal Poly Pomona but couldn't hold off the Broncos, eventually suffering a 2-1 loss to the visitors on Friday at Coyote Premier Field.
The two teams tied 1-1 in their first meeting in Pomona in September.
Tyler Reinhart put away his second goal of the season in the 81st minute to give the Broncos a 5-5-1 record thus far, 5-3-1 in the CCAA while the struggling Coyotes dropped to 3-9-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the CCAA.
The Broncos defense yielded a goal to CSUSB freshman
Obi Agwu, the first of his collegiate career, in the opening minutes of the match and then shut down the CSUSB offense the rest of the way.
Peter Hazdovac pulled Pomona even in the 56th minute when he one-touched a free kick from just outside the 18-yard-line from Ben Van Der Fluit into the net for his fourth goal of the season.
That set the stage for Reinhart's match-winner that came off a through ball from Miguel Abascal. Pomona outshot the Coyotes 13-8 and had seven corner kicks versus none for the Coyotes.
