Jeff James was named Associate Head Coach of the CSUSB Baseball team in August of 2023.
James completed his fourth year with the Yotes in 2023. The 2023 team dominated the record books, breaking 31 school records including most wins, most hits, most home runs, most runs scored, most RBI, most total bases, and highest stolen base percentage. James, who primarily runs the offense, was instrumental in leading the Yotes in their record-breaking season while also helping them reach the DII College World Series for the first time in program history. During his time at CSUSB, the program has seen four All-Americans and over a dozen All-CCAA honorees.
He served as an assistant coach and teacher at Notre Dame Prep HS in Scottsdale, Ariz. from 2017 to 2019.  Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Seattle University from 2013 to 2017, and the director of baseball operations the two years prior.  During his time there he was the hitting and outfield coach as well as camp director/coordinator.  In 2016, they were the WAC Champions winning the most games in school history as well as being the top offensive team.
In the summer of 2013, James was the head coach of the Xenia Scouts, an Athletes in Action organization that plays in the Great Lakes League. He took over as head coach of the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast League and led the Bells to the 2014 league championship. James was named the West Coast League’s Manager of the Year for the 2014 season. The team was also honored with the Jim Dietz Sportsmanship Award under his watch.
James came to Seattle University from Everett Community College, where he had been an associate head coach and head hitting coach from 2007 to 2011. He helped manage the Trojans to a 20-4 record, the best in school history, in 2011. Under his tutelage, the team ranked fifth in hitting in the 35-team NWAAC during both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
While coaching at Everett CC, James also held numerous summer coaching jobs. He was an assistant coach with the Everett Merchants, a collegiate summer team in the Pacific International League from 2010-2011. He helped the Merchants become the second best-hitting team in the league. He also ventured north of the border to coach when he took a hitting coach position with the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League in 2009-2010. Again, he helped the Falcons become the second-best hitting club in the league. James also has head coaching experience, having led both the Seals Baseball Team, a semi-pro summer ballclub based in Santa Rosa, Calif., and the 18U team of Laces Baseball Academy in Everett.Â
James played collegiate baseball with Bellevue Community College and at the University of Washington. In the 2006-2007 school year, he acted as an undergraduate assistant baseball coach at Washington while finishing his undergraduate degree.
James currently lives in Fontana with his wife Darcee and daughter’s Jorja and Payton. He completed his Masters of Education degree with a specialization in Athletic Coaching at North Central University.Â
