Kelcie Tolan, PhD

Tolan was named assistant coach of the women's volleyball program at Cal State San Bernardino prior to the 2019 season.

In her first season on the bench for the Coyotes, the team completed an undefeated 33-0 season and won the 2019 Division II National Championship.

Tolan played for the Yotes from 2008-2011 as a libero and had a record of 123-10. In the four years she played at CSUSB, her team was CCAA Conference Champions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), Regional Champions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), and two-time National Finalist (2008 and 2011). After college, Tolan played two years professionally overseas in Copenhagen, Denmark for Lyngby and Holte volley (Silver Medal, 2017). 

While playing overseas, Tolan taught at Lindegårdskolen and coached for both Københavns Studenter Volley (KSV) and Copenhagen International School from 2014-2015 and 2016-2017. Tolan spent 2018 as an assistant coach at San Bernardino Valley College and has also coached eight years with Rancho Valley Volleyball Club where is currently the Director of Programs.  

Tolan received her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a double concentration in pedagogy and exercise science, followed by two master’s degrees from Concordia University Irvine, a Master of Arts in coaching and athletic administration and a Master of Science in exercise science.

Tolan received her PhD from Concordia University Chicago in 2023 in leadership: health and human performance. Her dissertation title was Understanding NCAA Volleyball Head Coaches' Knowledge and Self-Efficacy Related To Cardiovascular Emergencies.
