Jeff Oliver enters his 16th season as head coach of the Coyotes' men’s basketball team in 2017-18.
The 45-year-old Oliver has succeeded since his first year in 2002-03. He has taken nine of his 15 teams to the NCAA Tournament and the Coyotes have won 20 or more games nine times.
The Coyotes have been a fixture in the NCAA Tournament, earning berths in 13 of the past 19 seasons.
Oliver earned CCAA and NCAA West Region coach of the year honors twice in his first three seasons as head coach of the Coyotes, then added his third after the Coyotes went 24-5 and won the CCAA title in 2013-14. He has guided CSUSB to six CCAA conference titles, two CCAA Tournament championships, and the 2007 NCAA West Region championship and the 2007 NCAA Elite Eight semifinals.
Oliver presides over a CCAA program that has won nine conference crowns in their history.
Oliver was a top assistant under former Coyotes Coach Larry Reynolds’ for three years and surpassed Reynolds as the all-time winningest coach two wins into the 2007-08 season.
Oliver spent one year as head coach at San Bernardino Valley College, guiding the Wolverines to an 11-3 Foothill Conference record and a berth in the state community college playoffs. He was named the conference’s coach of the year.
Before joining the CSUSB staff in 1998-99, Oliver spent two years at Ventura Community College as an assistant coach for a team that won the state championship in 1995-96.
He is a 1995 graduate of Cal Poly with a degree in management. The Ventura native earned his master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University in 1999.
As an undergraduate at Cal Poly, Oliver played basketball for the Mustangs, earning All-CCAA first-team honors in 1993 and being selected as team captain.
Oliver and his wife, Holly, and their sons, Evan and Gavin, reside in Highland.
