SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino baseball student-athlete Devyn Hernandez (Pasco, Wash.) has been named Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week by the NCBWA.
Hernandez went 2–0 for the week, throwing 8.2 innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out 11 in the CCAA Tournament opener on Wednesday. He returned in relief on Saturday, adding 1.2 scoreless innings to help secure CSUSB's first CCAA Tournament championship since 2002. Over the week, Hernandez totaled 10.1 innings pitched with 12 strikeouts.
For his efforts, Hernandez was named the CCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The Coyotes open up the West Regional this week against Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, with Point Loma Nazarene serving as the host.
