Men's Basketball Stopped Short by Cal Poly Pomona

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team dropped a 68-60 decision to Cal Poly Pomona Saturday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Coussoulis Arena.

With the loss, the Coyotes drop to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in the CCAA.

Cal State San Bernardino got off to a slow start in the contest, scoring only six points in the first 10 and a half minutes of the game. The Yotes trailed by as many as 15 points at 26-11 with just under five minutes remaining in the half, but trimmed the deficit down to four points at 28-24 by halftime, thanks to a buzzer-beating three from sophomore Aidan Fowler (San Clemente, Calif.) to end the half. Freshman Zion Paleo (Diamond Bar, Calif.) was the leading Coyote scorer in the first half, dropping six points with a pair of steals.

The Coyotes surged in the first few minutes of the second half, taking their first lead of the game at 32-31 on a mid-range bucket from Fowler at the 17-minute mark of the second half. Minutes later, a 35-33 advantage proved to be the final lead of the day for CSUSB, as the Broncos took control of the game after that. The Coyotes remained within striking distance until the final horn, closing the nine-point second half deficit to within two in the final minute, but the Broncos hit all their free throws down the stretch to secure the split of the home and home series.

Three Coyotes finished in double figures in the defeat, led by redshirt senior Gavin Davis (Carson, Calif.). Davis posted 17 points, with 13 coming in the second half. Guards Fowler and Paleo scored 14 and 12 respectively for the Yotes.

Next up, CSUSB will hit the road for a contest at Chico State on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
