Men's Basketball Bows Out of West Regional

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team saw its 2024-25 season come to an end on Saturday night, falling to top-seeded Point Loma Nazarene University 82-64 in the West Regional Semifinal at Golden Gymnasium.

With the defeat, the Coyotes finish the season with a record of 23-12.

The Coyotes went into the game's first media timeout with a four-point lead after scoring six of the contest's first eight points. Point Loma responded with a 7-0 run to take a 9-6 lead, but a bucket from Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) followed by a triple from Charlie Henderson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) gave the Yotes the lead back at 11-9.

The game was knotted at 18 apiece when Point Loma began to take control of the game. The Sea Lions went on a 7-0 run to take a 25-18 lead with 6:21 until the break, and back-to-back threes three minutes later gave the Sea Lions a nine-point lead at 33-24, forcing the Yotes to take a timeout.

Point Loma took their largest lead of the first half at 11 with a pair of free throws late in the period, but a Jordan Jones (Macon, Ga.) three closed the gap to 37-29 by the halftime buzzer.

Andrew Henderson was CSUSB's leading scorer in the opening half with 10 points, while senior Nic Welp (Seattle, Wash.) had six points and a team-high four boards.

CSUSB cut the deficit down to four early in the second half after back-to-back layups from Welp and graduate student Evan Oliver (San Bernardino, Calif.), but the Yotes would not score again for nearly five minutes and Point Loma jumped back out by 11.

Point Loma never looked back in the second half, leading by as many as 24 in the waning minutes of the contest before closing out the 82-64.

Andrew Henderson was CSUSB's leading scorer in the defeat, posting 19 points, while Welp had the game's lone double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Free throw attempts in the contest were 43-16 in favor of Point Loma.
