Men's Basketball Defeats Cal State San Marcos

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated Cal State San Marcos by a final score of 60–53 in CCAA action Thursday evening at Coussoulis Arena.

With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 17-9 overall and 10-7 in the CCAA. The victory is their fifth in a row.

San Marcos led for nearly the entirety of the first half, but the Yotes took the lead in the final minute to take a one-point 30-29 lead into the locker room. The Yotes used a 10-1 run late in the half to come back from six points down with just under four and a half minutes remaining to erase a six-point deficit to take a 30-27 advantage.

Senior Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) led the way for Cal State San Bernardino with a game-high 13 points, while classmate Nic Welp (Seattle, Wash.) posted nine and graduate student Evan Oliver (San Bernardino, Calif.) posted seven points in the first half. The trio combined for all but one Coyote point, a Camren Pierce (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) free throw, in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half stayed tight, but featured only three ties and four lead changes despite no team ever leading by more than two possessions until the final 15 seconds. Henderson went off in the second half, scoring 17 of Cal State San Bernardino's 30 points to help lift his team to the win.

Henderson finished the evening with 30 points, his highest single-game point total since dropping 40 on Western Oregon back on November 10. Oliver posted 14 points and six assists in the victory, while Welp had CSUSB's lone double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 boards.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will host Sonoma State on Saturday at Coussoulis Arena. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
