LANGLEY, British Columbia - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team knocked off Western Washington University 91-78 in a non-conference contest Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 1-1 overall on the young season.
The Vikings used an 8-0 run midway through the first half to take their largest lead of the day at 32-21, but the Yotes refused to back down. CSUSB battled back to go ahead by as many by three on an Amound Anderson II (Gardena, Calif.) and-one in the final minute of the second half, and led by one at 45-44 at halftime.
The second half featured two ties and six lead changes, the last coming on an Xavier Clinton (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) three-pointer that gave the Coyotes a 74-71 lead with 6:45 to play. The Yotes would pull away from there and never trail again, running their lead out to a game-high 13 points by the final horn.
The starting five each had huge days for the Yotes, as four of the five players finished in double figures. Leading the way was redshirt senior guard Gavin Davis (Carson, Calif.) with 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Sophomore Aidan Fowler (San Clemente, Calif.) had 15 points and a game-high four assists, while Javon Ervin (Tacoma, Wash.) poured in 14 points. Redshirt senior Walter Hamilton (Lake Center, Miss.) finished just a board away from a double-double with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Coyotes will conclude their tournament in Canada by playing the hosts from Simon Fraser on Sunday. Tip-off is slated for 6:15 p.m.
