SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The #19 California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team fell 73-62 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship game Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
With the defeat, Cal State San Bernardino falls to 23-7 overall on the season. The Coyotes will find out their fate for an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday evening on the Division II Men's Basketball selection show at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
The Yotes led for the majority of the first half, but it was the Golden Eagles that held a 32-31 lead heading into the locker room, after only leading for 1:07. Senior Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.) led all players with 10 points in the opening half, while Chris Mitchell (Oceanside, Calif.) posted seven points and seven boards.
The Coyotes briefly took the lead at 40-38 five and a half minutes into the second half, but the Golden Eagles responded with a 17-2 run over the next seven and a half minutes to take a 55-42 lead.
CSUSB chiseled away at the lead, getting their deficit down to five at 59-54 with 4:28 to play on an Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) layup, but the Golden Eagles would once again surge away and never look back.
Mitchell finished as the game's leading scorer with 21 points and a huge 16 rebounds for Cal State San Bernardino. Altman was the only other Coyote in double figures, posting 15 points.
