SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team escaped with a 61-55 win over Cal Poly Humboldt in CCAA action Thursday evening at Coussoulis Arena.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 17-5 overall on the season and 12-4 in the CCAA.Â
Humboldt scored the game's first seven points to take early control of the game, but the Yotes came back to take their first lead of the game at 21-20 on a Robby Robinson (San Diego, Calif.) three-point play with 2:56 remaining in the first half. The Lumberjacks would go on to score the final six points of the half however, taking a 26-21 lead into the locker room.
Robinson was San Bernardino's leading scorer in the first half, posting seven points.
San Bernardino opened the second half on an 11-3 run to take a three-point lead at 32-29 at the first media timeout of the half, but the Lumberjacks responded with a run of their own. Over the next three minutes, Humboldt would jump back in front by five.
The teams would battle back and forth down the stretch, but an 8-1 run over the final 2:35 of the contest proved to be the difference as the Coyotes held on for the victory.Â
Robinson posted 14 points in the second half to finish as the game's leading scorer with 21. He also had the game's only double-double with 11 boards. Senior Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.) also had double figures for the Coyotes, notching 11 points. Classmate Jalen Flanagan (Oceanside, Calif.) finished the evening with nine points and seven boards, including a clutch go-ahead three-pointer late in the second half.Â
Next up for the Coyotes, they will welcome Chico State to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
