Men's Basketball Knocks Off Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team took care of Stanislaus State by a final score of 72-62 Saturday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

With the victory, the Yotes improve to 13-4 overall on the season, and 8-3 in the CCAA.

The game featured 12 ties and 13 lead changes, most of which came in a tightly-contested first half, which ended with the Yotes holding a narrow 32-31 lead. Junior Chris Mitchell (Oceanside, Calif.) had a double-double before even entering the locker room for halftime with 16 points and 11 boards in the opening 20 minutes.

With the game tied at 43-43 six and a half minutes into the second half, the Yotes went on a 16-0 run over the next five minutes to move firmly into the driver's seat, capped by a three-point dagger from senior Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.).

The Warriors slowly chipped away at the lead in the game's closing minutes, getting the deficit down to as close as six at 68-62 with 1:42 to go, but would not score again as the Coyotes secured the 10-point win. 

Mitchell finished the contest with career-highs of 31 points and 13 boards, both leading the Yotes. Altman notched 14 points, while senior Robby Robinson put up 11 points and six rebounds in the win. 

San Bernardino controlled 18 offensive rebounds in the win, to just 22 defensive rebounds for the Warriors. The Yotes were able to capitalize, leading in the second chance points category by a margin of 16-7. Overall, San Bernardino out-rebounded Stanislaus 44-34.

Next up for the Yotes, they will return home to take on Cal State LA on Thursday evening inside Coussoulis Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
