Men's Basketball Rallies Past Monterey Bay

Box Score SEASIDE, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay by a final score of 72-63 Thursday evening in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at The Kelp Bed.

With the victory, the Yotes improve to 12-4 overall on the season and 7-3 in the CCAA.

A tightly contested first half came to a close with the Otters holding on to a narrow 29-27 lead. The period featured eight ties and three lead changes, with neither team leading by more than five the entire half. Leading the way for the Yotes was senior Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.), who poured in 11 first half points.

The Yotes came back in the second half to claim the road victory. Despite trailing at halftime, San Bernardino outscored the hosts 45-34 in the second half to earn the come-from-behind victory. Three of Altman's game-high 25 points came on a dagger three with 1:34 remaining, giving the Coyotes a 66-55 advantage and putting the game officially out of reach.

Altman was one of four Yotes to finish in double figures. He was joined by Robby Robinson (San Diego, Calif.) with 11 and junior Chris Mitchell (Oceanside, Calif.) and Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) with 10 each.

The Yotes got the job done on the boards, outrebounding the Monterey Bay 44-33. Altman was San Bernardino's leading rebounder, finishing just shy of a double-double with nine boards.

San Bernardino had 33 chances at the charity stripe in the win, knocking down 25 (75.8 percent). The Otters had a better free throw percentage at 76.9 percent, but knocked down only 10 of 13 free throws. The margin in free throws made turned out to be the difference.

The Yotes will continue their road trip on Saturday afternoon at Stanislaus State. Tip-off from Turlock between the Coyotes and Warriors is slated for 3 p.m.
