THE YOTES BOUNCE BACK WITH A WIN AGAINST SONOMA STATE, 83-74

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif - The No. 22 CSUSB men's basketball team pulled out a hard-fought victory against Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon, winning with a final score of 83-74. This win brings the Yotes' overall record to 11-4, with a 6-3 standing in conference play.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif - The No. 22 CSUSB men's basketball team pulled out a hard-fought victory against Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon, winning with a final score of 83-74. This win brings the Yotes' overall record to 11-4, with a 6-3 standing in conference play.

Sonoma State took an early lead, establishing an 11-4 advantage with 15:49 remaining in the first half. However, the Yotes swiftly responded with a 19-point run, highlighted by Chris Mitchell's two successful three-pointers within an eight-minute span. The score stood at 26-13 with 6:44 remaining in the half. 

The Seawolves would fight back, narrowing the Yotes' lead to four points with only 47 seconds left. In a crucial moment, Chris Mitchell delivered back-to-back three-pointers, the second one sinking in with just 4 seconds on the clock, elevating the Yotes to a 41-33 lead at halftime.

Chris Mitchell showcased an outstanding performance for the Yotes, contributing 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Mitchell's shooting accuracy was notable, with a 66.6% success rate from the field and an impressive 83.3% from beyond the arc.

Carrying their offensive momentum into the second half, the Yotes demonstrated remarkable efficiency, boasting a 62.50% field goal success rate and a perfect 100% from beyond the arc. This performance was particularly noteworthy following their previous loss to San Marcos, where their shooting percentages were 42.9% and 31.3%, respectively.

Throughout the second half, the Yotes maintained their lead, with key contributions from Chris Mitchell, Sedrick Altman, and Jalen Flanagan. 

Sedrick Altman delivered 11 points in the second half, accumulating a total of 17 points in the game. Altman's impact extended beyond scoring, as he also provided seven assists. Jalen Flanagan contributed 11 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 1-for-1 from beyond the arc.

Despite Sonoma State's efforts, the Yotes held a cushion of seven or more points throughout the second half, ultimately securing the win with a final score of 83-74.
