SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB baseball team had nine of its members earn All-CCAA recognition on Tuesday, including four First Team, three Second Team, and two Honorable Mention. This comes as no surprise, given that the Yotes are currently in the middle of their winningest season in program history. They were also ranked in the Top 25 in all 13 weeks of the regular season.
Â
Austyn Coleman,
Daryl Ruiz,
Giovanni Del Negro, and
Oscar Rauda each earned All-CCAA First Team honors, coincidentally representing each of the four main position types – starting pitcher, relief pitcher, infield, and outfield. Rauda made history a few weeks back, breaking the all-time CSUSB saves record with the 22
nd of his career. Rauda currently leads the entire country with 12 saves on the season. Coleman is also chasing history, having tied the all-time program win record in his last start to improve to 17-6 in his career. With his next win, he will become the winningest pitcher in program history.
Â
Ruiz and Del Negro have been a core bats in the best lineup in the conference, each batting over .350, over 10 home runs, over 50 RBI, over 45 runs scored, over 100 total bases, and both with an OPS over 1.000. They are unquestionably two of the top five hitters in the CCAA and look to power the lineup this postseason. They are both top 10 on the all-time CSUSB home run list, and each could make a legitimate run at the program record next season.
Â
DeShawn Johnson,
Garrett Macias, and
Dylan O'Connor were each named All-CCAA Second Team. Johnson and Macias have also been consistent threats in the lineup, with Johnson ranking top 10 in the CCAA in nearly offensive category and first in runs scored. Macias has been consistent at driving in runs all season with six home runs while displaying strong defense behind the plate. O'Connor was a two-time CCAA Pitcher of the Week, leading the Yotes with four complete games and 74 strikeouts in 71.0 innings. He was also named NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Luke Hempel and
Danny Garcia rounded out the selections, each being named All-CCAA Honorable Mention. Hempel owned a record of 6-3 on the bump, ranking third on the team in innings pitched and fourth in strikeouts with 45. The San Bernardino native Garcia came up big for the Yotes in multiple games this season, currently batting .322 with 7 home runs and 35 RBI.
