HAYWARD, Calif. – The CSUSB baseball team came up short in the 11
th inning of the series opener at Cal State East Bay on Thursday afternoon, losing by a score of 4-5. With the loss, the Yotes fall to 24-9 on the season and 15-8 in CCAA play. Despite having an incredible 17-3 record at home, CSUSB struggles to find the same level of success on the road with an away record of 7-6.

The Yotes took the lead in the second inning on an RBI double by
Matt Gonzales, scoring
Derek Bogh from first.
DeShawn Johnson then singled to center field, scoring Gonzales to put the Yotes up 2-0. CSUEB tied the game up over the next two innings on an error and fielders' choice, each allowing a run to score to make the score 2-2.

CSUSB regained the lead in the fourth inning when
Daryl Ruiz drove in Johnson on an RBI single.
Jake Borst added on the next inning, hitting a solo home run on a full count to give them a 4-2 lead. East Bay responded once again with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 4-4. Neither team would score again until the bottom of the 11
th inning, when the Pioneers walked off on a RBI single up the middle. Despite falling 4-5 in the game, the Yotes' offense collected 12 hits to the Pioneer's 11.

Luke Hempel started the game on the mound, allowing three earned runs in 5.0 innings on 80 pitches. Freshman
Conner Batzer entered the game and shut down the CSUEB bats, holding them to just one hit and one walk across 3.1 innings to keep the game tied.
John Pfeffer entered in the ninth, and continued to keep East Bay off the board until they managed to string together a walk-off in the 11
th inning.
