SAN DIEGO, Calif. – For the fourth time in program history, the Yotes are West Region Champions! In a sellout game against No. 4 Point Loma, who entered Monday with a 25-game win streak dating back to November, the No. 6 Yotes came up with a big 89-83 win, sending them to Evansville, IN for the Elite Eight. This is the first time in 16 years the Yotes have advanced to the Elite Eight, having only done so in 1999, 2002, and 2007.
Â
Already one of the most successful teams in program history - breaking the program win record, scoring record, and becoming the only team to reach 30 wins in a season - the Yotes look to go where no team has gone before: the finals. The last team to reach the Elite Eight was the 2006-07 squad, a group that would lose in the Final Four to the eventual national champions Barton. Both the 1999 and 2002 squads were eliminated in the Elite Eight, meaning this year's Yotes have a chance to make the deepest run in program history. And if they continue to play the way they have for the past two months, they'll have some hardware with them on the flight home.

Brandon Knapper recorded three treys against the Sea Lions, tying him with Eric Carpenter (1992-94) for most three-pointers made in CSUSB history at 188. With just one more, Knapper will cement himself as the greatest three-point shooter in school history. What makes this feat even more incredible is that he's accomplished this in just 56 games played.
Â
Eddie Davis led the scoring for the Yotes with 22, while
Darius Mickens and
Mahmoud Fofana each contributed big performances with 14 apiece. Carrying a five point lead out of halftime, CSUSB continued to control the pace of the game until the final four minutes. Three consecutive treys from the Sea Lions allowed them to tie the game up at 81-81. A clutch basket by Knapper in the paint with 39 seconds on the clock gave the Yotes a two-point lead, followed by four consecutive made free throws from
Kaijae Yee-Stephens and Mickens. With not enough time left on the clock for Point Loma to mount a comeback, CSUSB walked away with a remarkable win in a tough road environment, advancing them to the Elite Eight.
