Knapper Breaks Three-Point Record in Elite Eight Win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The CSUSB men's basketball team defeated No. 5 Lincoln Memorial in the Elite Eight on Tuesday night by a score of 88-70, advancing to just their second Final Four in school history. With the win, CSUSB improves to 31-3 on the season and 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament. This marks the fourth Elite Eight in which the top four seeds have reached the semifinals since the reseeding of the quarterfinals began in 2016. It is also the first Elite Eight win by a team from the CCAA since 2010, a win that came from Cal Poly Pomona who went on to win the national title.

With 5:15 on the clock in the first half, Brandon Knapper accomplished something no Yote has ever done before: hitting his 189th career three. In just 57 career games played, Knapper has now made 189 career treys, breaking the program record. The record previously belonged to Eric Carpenter, who landed 188 from 1992-1994. Knapper finished the game with 15 points, going 6-for-14 from the field with four rebounds.

Knapper accomplished another feat on Tuesday, becoming just the third player in school history to be named an All-American in back-to-back seasons. On Tuesday morning, the NABC announced Knapper as a First Team All-American, an honor that is only given to the top 16 players in the country at the NCAA Divsion II level. The Ontario, CA native was also named an NABC All-American last season, adding to his laundry list of individual accolades.

Mahmoud Fofana chose an excellent time to record his first double-double of the season, scoring 18 points against the Railsplitters while leading the team with 14 rebounds. Just as they've done all year, the Yotes outrebounded LMU 50-35, almost perfectly in line with their nation leading +14 rebound margin on the season.

Darius Mickens and Dontrell Shuler combined for 40 points, powering the offense to the win. The team shot 47 percent from the field and 80 percent from the line.
