Back-To-Back, Yotes Clinch CCAA Regular Season Title

SEASIDE, Calif. – The CSUSB men's basketball team clinched the CCAA regular season title on Monday afternoon, after defeating Cal State Monterey Bay by a score of 94-86. With their eighth consecutive win, the Yotes improve to 23-3 overall with an 18-2 record in CCAA play. This is the second straight year that CSUSB has clinched the conference regular season title, marking the first time since 2009 they have won it in back-to-back seasons.

The Yotes' game against the Otters originally began on December 3^rd, but was postponed due to a roof leak at The Kelp Bed. As a result, Monday's contest picked up right where that game left off – Yotes leading 42-36 with 1:32 remaining in the first half. In the opening minute of Monday's action, CSUSB scored five points to go up 47-36 headed into the abbreviated halftime. They would continue to hold roughly a 10-point lead through the remainder of the game, ultimately walking away with the 94-86 win.

The 'Dino Boys' two leading scorers, Brandon Knapper and Dontrell Shuler, once again led the offense with over 20 points a piece. Knapper scored 27 while Shuler scored 20, each with five rebounds. The team shot 54 percent from the field and 31 percent from three to go along with a +12 rebound margin in the game.

The Yotes will conclude the regular season with two games at home. On Thursday, February 23^rd, they will host Chico State in a 7:30 PM game in The Den. With Monday's win, the Yotes clinched the number one seed in the upcoming CCAA Tournament in Turlock, CA. This means they will advance directly to the semifinals on Friday, March 3rd, and will play the winner of the No. 4 and No. 5 quarterfinal.
