Cal State San Bernardino's 18
th-ranked Yotes renew their long-standing rivalry with nearby Cal Poly Pomona at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31, in Coussoulis Arena.

The Yotes are 8-2 this season after a 6-0 start and sit in second place in the CCAA conference at 3-1 while the Broncos are off to a slow start at 2-6, having lost three conference games in a row and sit at 1-3 in the CCAA.

Beyond the rivalry is the first meeting of the Yotes' junior guard
Chris Mitchell with his former Broncos teammates. Mitchell, who was Pomona's leading scorer in 2022-23, is now the leading scorer for the Yotes at 14.5 points a game.

Mitchell is also joined on the Yotes team by his brother Bryce, a transfer from Cal Poly Humboldt.

Regardless of how each team is doing year-by-year this has been a strong rivalry since the two teams first met back in 1989. The Broncos lead the all-time series 36-31 but the Yotes have won the last six meetings and are 8-2 over the last 10 encounters.

CSUSB comes into the game ranked No. 2 in the CCAA in scoring at 77.6 points a game and No. 2 in defense, allowing just 63.2 points a game. The Broncos are 12
th and last in the CCAA in offense (65.3 ppg) and No. 6 in defense (67.9 ppg).

Chris Mitchell ranks No. 4 in the CCAA at 14.5 ppg and No. 5 in field goal percentage (54.2).
Robby Robinson, the only player back from last year's CCAA and West Region champion squad which reached the NCAA Final Four, ranks No. 3 in the conference in rebounding (8.0 rpg), and No. 4 in free throw percentage (83.3).

Evan Guillory ranks No. 3 in assists per game (3.7) and No. 4 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).

Leading the Broncos offensively is Brandon Porter, a senior transfer from Cal Poly Humboldt, averaging 13.5 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game and has a team-high 15 steals. Sophomore guard Bam Johnson averages 13.3 ppg and is the team leader in assists with 19.

Broncos Head Coach Greg Kamansky is back for his 23
rd season, producing a 442-190 overall record, 327-140 in the CCAA. The team has had winning seasons in 19 of his 22 years at the helm.

GAME NOTES – The Yotes' loss to Hawaii Pacific before Christmas dropped them from No. 9 to No. 18 in the NABC Division II national rankings. CCAA members Cal State Dominguez Hills (No. 19) and Chico State (No. 23) are in the top 25…..the D2SIDA media West Region poll has the Toros (9-1) at No. 2, the Yotes at No. 3, East Bay (8-2) at No. 4, Chico State (6-2) at No. 6, Cal State L.A.
