SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team fell to Chico State on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 2-1. The Yotes now hold a 1-2-1 CCAA record and a 4-5-2 overall record.
Both the Yotes and the Wildcats played aggressively. The Yotes' offense was lethal throughout the first half, with all seven shots forcing a save from Hofmann. The Wildcats shared in the offensive action, taking eight shots of their own in the first half. Despite the efforts of both teams, neither managed to score in the initial 45 minutes of the game.
The deadlock was quickly broken after half time. The Wildcats' Avery Pieri scored her fourth goal of the season in the 59
th minute, assisted by Klayre Barre, who picked up her 3
rd assist of the season.
The Yotes had a big chance to go up in the 60
th minute when a foul by Chico State's Emma Hoffman put
Kaylen Gonzalez on the line for a penalty kick. Unfortunately for the Yotes, Gonzalez's attempt narrowly missed the net.
However, the Yotes managed to equalize the score just 10 minutes later.
Unieque Solis took two touches before successfully placing the ball into the back of the net, with an assist from
Kaylen Gonzalez. Solis recorded her third goal of the season, while Gonzalez achieved her third consecutive assist in recent matches.
The Wildcats regained the lead in the 71st minute off a free kick taken by Natalie Mendoza. She curved a right-footed shot into the back corner of the net, giving the visiting Wildcats a 2-1 advantage.
Throughout the 90 minutes of play, both the Yotes and the Wildcats managed the same number of shots, with each team recording 13 attempts. Eleven of the Yotes' shots were on target, and Hofmann saved 10 of them. Yotes' goalkeeper
Leila Peregrina stopped 5 of the seven shots on goal by Chico State.
Ultimately, the game concluded with a final score of 2-1 in favor of the Wildcats.
