CARSON, Calif. – The CSUSB men's basketball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills on Monday night, winning by a score of 87-77. With their sixth consecutive win, the Yotes improve to 11-1 on the season with a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. With the loss, CSUDH falls to 7-7 on the season and 3-5 in CCAA play.
CSUSB's leading scorer,
Brandon Knapper, recorded his second double-double of the season, recording 23 points with a career-high 11 rebounds. This is the first time the All-American guard has recorded double-digit rebounds in his six-year collegiate career. Knapper also recorded three assists while shooting 4-for-9 (.444) from three-point range.
Dontrell Shuler led the scoring for the Yotes, recording 24 points while shooting 61 percent from the floor.
CSUSB's remaining three starters -
Mahmoud Fofana,
Darius Mickens, and
Sedrick Altman - all contributed significant performances to the team win. Together, the starting five played all 40 minutes, shot 53 percent from the floor, 39 percent beyond the arc, and gathered 37 rebounds.
After shooting 48 percent in the first half, the 'Dino Boys came out of half hot - shooting 80 percent in the next ten minutes. This helped give the Yotes some much-needed separation from the Toros, outscoring CSUDH 47-40 in the final 20 minutes. CSUSB would hold on to the lead in the final minutes to walk away with a gritty 87-77 team win.
