No. 2 Yotes Close Winningest Season in Eight Years in NCAA Semifinals

CSUSB faced off against CCAA opponent Chico State in final game of the season.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 2 Yotes faced the No. 3 Chico State Wildcats in the Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, hosted here in Coussoulis Arena. Heading into the game CSUSB held an overall record of 20-8 against the Wildcats, losing two during the regular conference season. Chico State beyond the arc was difficult to stop and the Yotes could not find a way to close the three-point line. Wildcats won the game, 91-82.

Leading in scoring for the Yotes was Eddie Davis who collected his fourth double-double on the season. Davis nabbed 28 points, 10 rebounds, and one block. Brandon Knapper scored 22 points and had seven assists on the game. Darius Lubom added 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

"These are really tough moments to go through in sports" said coach Any Newman. "Most seasons end in a loss and it takes some time before you can reflect on what a great season this team had. This is that moment for us. I do want to give credit to Chico as they played great and made big shots when they need them. They deserved to win and all the credit should lie there. I am really proud of how hard we fought back tonight and the character of this group was very apparent. I will miss coaching this team A LOT."

The Yotes close the season in the second round of the NCAA tournament hosted in Coussoulis Arena. This year was the winningest season for CSUSB since the 2013-2014 season when the Yotes had an overall record of 24-5, advancing to the NCAA tournament second round where they lost to Chico State, also in Coussoulis Arena.
