LEXINGTON, KY. –
Lydia Morohunfola was named an All-America Honorable Mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Wednesday morning. The All-America press release can be found
here.
Morohunfola, a redshirt senior out of Eastvale, CA, was the lone Yote to be named to the AVCA All-West Region team as well as the D2CCA All-West Region Team earlier in the month.
The middle-blocker finished the 2022 season with a .413 hitting percentage, which ranks first in the CCAA and third in the nation. Morohunfola also gathered 223 kills while leading the Yotes with 108.0 blocks on defense.
This season was the most productive of Morohunfola's career, which is an impressive feat considering she was a key member of the 2019 undefeated national-title squad. In 2022, she set personal single-season bests in sets played (107), kills (223), kills per set (2.08), total attacks (421), attack percentage (.413), digs (33), blocks (108.0), and points (296.5).
"Lydia is very deserving of this recognition. She has been through so many personal and physical challenges during her tenure here at CSUSB, but throughout it all she remained the consummate teammate and a true 'Yote at her core. She was dominant in the CCAA this season and was a leader for us on and off the court. I'm so proud to have her be a part of our legacy of All-Americans." – Head Coach Kim Cherniss
In her career as a Yote, Morohunfola played in a total of 104 matches, 330 sets, collecting 589 kills, 1.78 kills per set, a career .358 hitting percentage on nearly 1,200 total attacks, 68 digs, 306.0 total blocks, and 778.5 total points.
